菱形竹紋赤織部茶器（蓋黒檀中川周士作）

この赤織部茶器は美濃の赤土で轆轤成形した後、全体を菱形に変形する。土が柔らかいうちに箆を上下させて外の面に螺旋状の筋をつける。

素焼し、筆で白化粧を内側の下半分と、外側に不均等に縦の線を施す。その縦線とそこに交わった筋に酸化鉄で縁取りし、それらの間を赤化粧で埋めることで竹模様が生まれる。

内側の口縁には竹の葉を描き、全体に透明釉を掛けて酸化焼成。

この作品には引き締まった色目をと黒檀の蓋を選んだ。

かぐや姫がどこかに出てきそうなこの菱形茶器がお雛様の３月に活躍出来ることは間違いなしです。四方にお使いいただいても良く、蓋を開けて中の縁取りの竹の葉と抹茶の緑とのコントラストも楽しめ、通年さまざまな場面に登場できます。

Diamond-shaped Bamboo design
Red Oribe Tea Container (Lid-Ebony wood)

This Red Oribe style tea container was wheel-thrown with red Mino clay and altered into a diamond shape with grooves spiraling up and down the form.

After bisque firing, white slip was brushed on in irregular vertical lines on the outside and the lower 1/2 of the inside. The white lines and the grooves crossing them were then outlined with black iron oxide to create bamboo designs that were then framed by filling in the negative spaces between them with a red iron slip. The inside lip was then decorated with red slip bamboo leaves and the whole piece was covered with a clear glaze and fired in oxidation to 1210 degrees C.

I chose an all black piece of Ebony wood for the lid that compliments the design and can be used from any angle.

The design & colors look wonderful with bright green matcha inside and the bamboo design is exceptionally versatile all year round.
