萩十字高台茶碗

懐かしい昔の作品をご紹介！

この茶碗は、1982年私が二度目の修業で十二代田原陶兵衛先生の窯にお世話になっていた時に制作したものです。
古萩の展覧会図録で目にした江戸時代の茶碗に触発され、制作しました。

轆轤で成形した後、高台を十字形になるように四方から削り出しました。素焼きをせずに生掛けで施釉し、萩焼の伝統の中で何百年にもわたり使われてきた藁灰を調合した釉薬を用いています。
焼成は四室の登り窯で行い、茶碗の下に小さな貝殻を敷いて焼き上げました。

高台に押された印は、私の日本名「利茶土」の「利」の字です。

この茶碗は、誕生から約45年もの間、大切に使われ、今日まで受け継がれてきました。焼成中に生じた口縁のひび割れは金継ぎで修復されています。

Hagi Jyuji Koudai Chawan

A Blast from the Past!

I made this chawan in 1982 at the kiln of Tahara Toube the 12th during my second apprenticeship. It was inspired by an Edo period chawan I saw in an exhibition catalog of Old Hagi Ware!

It was wheel thrown and the foot was cut into 4 sections in the shape of a cross. It was glazed raw (unbisqued) with a rice straw ash formula popular for centuries in the Hagi tradition and fired in a 4 chamber wood kiln sitting on small clam shells. The hanko is the Japanese character for RI used in my given Japanese name Richado(利茶土)

It has been cared for & used for almost 45 years and has a gold lacquer repair at the lip for a crack that opened up in the firing. The color is a combination of white, cream and pink colors that are wonderful with either thin or thick tea.
